Ruling Passion is a 45ft trimaran containing three cold molded wooden hulls lined side-by-side. The center hull is largest and contains the crew accommodations and living space. Captain Larry Puckett and his wife Laura Puckett built Ruling Passion from a set of plans designed by Jim Brown and John Marples. The inspiration for the design came from ancient polynesian sailing craft. The designers took the core concepts from one of the oldest sailing cultures in the world and applied the use of modern materials to build a fast, stable, and seaworthy vessel. She was launched on August 18th 1991 from their back yard in Kinsale, Virginia.
